My fellow Brighton Girevoy Sport Team member and sponsor of the team Andy SHOULDER CENTRIC did a little bit of maths earlier today. He sat down and calculated the amount of weight that was lifted in just 8 hours last Saturday by 76 competitors in ten minute slots.
His findings were as follows:
Just
as a bit of fun, I looked at the overall kg lift totals, based on the
absolute & snatch figures in Brum last week and came up with the
following figures (Lord, let my maths be right!!);
Men Absolute = 112,176 kg Women Absolute = 29,648 kg Men Snatch = 61,716 kg Women Snatch = 19,928 kg
Total Lift on the day = 223,468 kg
That's a lot of energy, guys and doesn't include the efforts of those
who carried the bells in before the comp and out again afterwards!
(Thanks again to Jason At Wolverson and his cheerful bunch).
Last weekend we had the local press and also prolific blogger NEWSCOOP
at the event click the link to her blog above and get a run down from a
non-competitor about the biggest event of it's kind in the UK and
Ireland.
Saturday was a day that I will never forget. After months of planning the first European Girevoy Sport Association
English Open Long Cycle competition to see the 70+ athletes come
flooding through the door and start preparing for the competition was a
massive relief and an honour.
With competitors from England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Portugal, France, Sweden and Ukraine we had a immense
pool of talent come to compete from all over Europe. I was expecting
great things and that is exactly what I got with some superb results
from established, experienced athletes and newbies alike.
To my team: Andy, Dil, Sam, Jane, Silvia, Rooth and Martin. I am very proud of you all and what you achieved yesterday. Most, if
not all of you got a personal best and I can assure you that you will
continue to improve and get better and better with time. Thank you for
making Brighton a great team to be part of and coach.
I would also like to thank my great backroom team. My wife Fiona, fellow BGSC Andrew,
his wife Pat Bellamy and not forgetting Kersten. They made the day that
I had planned run so smoothly smoothly and professionally. Without
them and their ability to multitask this would have been a completely
different day. Thank you guys you were amazing!!! (just take the
compliment :0).
A very big thank you to our competition sponsor Wolverson Fitness ( Jason, Jamie, Katie and Matt) Your support was invaluable and I look forward to working with you all again soon for our next comp.
I am very proud of what was achieved this weekend and this can only
make our sport become bigger, better and stronger in the years to come.
Long Cycle Competition Willenhall Chart Centre 19 Gomer Street, Willenhall, West Midlands WV13 2NS UK
With a record level of entries I have had to close the registration for this event.
I'd like to thank you all for your support and I am very much looking forward to seeing all 70 athletes compete on Feb 18th 2012
This has proven to be a very popular event and numbers have exceeded my expectations. I will be proud to put on this event and it looks like it will be a great competition with athletes coming in from all over Europe.
Let's get lifting guys and see you all next month!!!!

February 2012 08.30 – 17.00 Long
Cycle and Snatch Sprint Competition
I am pleased to announce that with the help of Jason at Wolverson Fitness I will be hosting first EGSA Long Cycle competition in England. This is an open competition and we welcome all abilities, we hope this will encourage people to compete in kettlebell sport for the first time and take open the sport up to a wider audience in the UK.
COMPETITION LIFTS OUTLINED LONG CYCLE: 10 mins In
the long cycle, the lifter cleans two bells to the rack position (one bell for
women), jerks them to a locked out position overhead (this must be fixed before rep is counted),
drops them to the rack, and then cleans them again prior to the next
repetition. The
lifter has ten minutes to complete as many repetitions as possible in each individual
lift. The one major rule is that the lifter may not set the kettlebells down or
the set is considered complete. The lifter may rest with the bell locked out
overhead and in the rack position.
In the instance of women competitors (who will use one bell) the lifter is
allowed to switch hands once.
Men
may compete with 12-Kg, 16-Kg, 20-Kg, 24-Kg, 28-Kg, and 32-Kg kettlebells,
depending on their level of sport mastery.
Women
may compete with 8-Kg, 12-Kg, 16-Kg, 20-Kg and 24-Kg kettlebells, depending on
their individual level of sport mastery. See
video for demo: http://youtu.be/GIovgZOoIic
SNATCH:
3 mins
The snatch involves swinging a kettlebell between
the legs and explosively lifting it to a fixed and locked out position overhead
(this must be fixed before rep is counted, legs must be straight), all in one
movement. After fixating the bell, the lifter lowers the kettlebell in a
swinging motion back between the legs and performs the next repetition. Because
this is a one armed lift, the lifter must switch hands one time and complete
snatches on the other hand as well.
The sprint snatch is a speed event and separate
from the Long – Cycle competition.
I will start growing the tash tomorrow morning and continue to do so for
the entire month of November. Now I'm not gonna pretend this will be
pretty but I will do my best to be manly and carry off this "GINGER
SLUG" to the best of my ability.
