Firstly I'd like to thank Dan, Pete, and Michael of the Boatshed Training Centre for hosting the competition this last weekend. 20 competetitors from around the UK and Ireland traveled to the annual Welsh Open Kettlebell Championships in Cardiff. After a tense build up to the event the day came and what a day it was.
Brighton Girevoy sport club managed to place 1st and 2nd in the ladies event with Silvia winning overall and Jane coming in second place to her team mate. Unfortunately our 4th member Andrew was unable to compete due to ill health, but I'm sure he will back back stronger than ever and compete at the next UK comp.
I managed a total of 55 reps with the 28s and completed the full ten minutes. My snatching on the other hand leaves me wondering why I did not respect that lift more with a poor showing and only managing 5 mins and a handful of reps. I will use this to prepare better for my next comp and never neglect my snatching again.
I am in fact, after watching the video below again of my snatch, pretty furious at my performance and know what I have to do to remedy this and never let it happen again!!!!
Silvia's results: 12kg (Placed 1st overall)
146 Jerk
167 Snatch
Jane's results: 12kg (Placed 2nd overall)
85 Jerk
193 Snatch
A brilliant day from all lifters and well done to fellow EGSA lifter Steve Dawson (20kgs), Ray Wilson, a first time competitor (20kg), Tim Joseph (32kgs) and some new faces from Ireland Adrian Quinn 1st place overall with 28kg bells and only a few points way from his CMS rank, Aaron Quinn, Paul Doyl and Sean Gavin. I'm sure all of these guys will be back and even stronger than before.
On the female lifting side there were a team of women who had (a) never competed and (b) had to learn the JERK movement 20 minutes before the comp itself. So I'd like to congratulate them for having the guts to step onto the platform itself, this alone is not an easy thing!!!
Kate Howells, Kirsty Heritage, Catherine Wide, Elizabeth Treharne-Harris, Natalia Campbell, Sarah Jones.
This sport will continue to grow and I'm sure that the numbers that compete will also increase over the next few months as word spreads.
HERE'S TO THE NEXT COMP GUYS!!
